In Bible days, men wore tunics instead of pants which was fine for general use but not for war. For war, they girded up their loins which means gathering and tucking up their skirts so they wouldn’t get in the way. Today it would probably look like putting on combat boots and bullet proof gear.
Peter uses this analogy in 1 Peter 1:13 when he instructs believers in a process like Roman 12. He says to prepare your mind for action (gird up), be soberminded (pay attention), focus your hope fully on grace (recognize God’s grace is your only hope), don’t be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance (break from the things that moved you before you knew Christ), and because the nature of God who calls you is holy, you should be holy in your conduct. Becoming more like God begins with girding up.
Paul gives us the next key in Ephesians 6 where he tells us to put on the armor of God to overcome the enemy, when he says gird your loins – sounds familiar- with the belt of TRUTH. So, you must have truth to prepare your mind to be renewed. Jesus prayed to the Father concerning His followers, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17). The Bible is the inerrant word of God and does not contain truth, IT IS TRUTH. It is THE filter through which you must pass every thought and intention. It doesn’t matter who says something is true. If it is contrary to God’s word, it’s not even up for discussion.
Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. (Psalm 119:11)
Read Psalm 119 and make a list of 10 verses about the word to memorize to gird up your mind. Note there are many synonyms of the word- truth, statutes, testimonies, etc.

Day 6: Es hora de ceñir tu mente
En tiempos bíblicos, los hombres usaban túnicas en lugar de pantalones, lo cual estaba bien para uso general pero no para la guerra. Para la guerra, ceñían sus lomos que significa que levantaban sus faldas y se fajaban para que no les estorbaren. Hoy, probablemente se vería como ponerse las botas de combate y equipo antibalas.
Pedro usa esta analogía en 1 Pedro1:13 cuando instruye a los creyentes en un proceso como el de Romanos 12. Dice prepara tu mente para acción (cíñete), sé sobrio (pon atención), enfoca tu esperanza completamente en la gracia (reconoce la gracia de Dios como tu única esperanza), no te conformes a las pasiones que tenías en tu ignorancia (rompe con las cosas que te impulsaban antes de conocer a Cristo), y ya que la naturaleza de Dios quien te llamó es santa, tú debes ser santo en tu conducta. Volverte más como Dios comienza con ceñirte.
Pablo nos da la siguiente clave en Efesios 6 donde nos manda a poner la armadura de Dios para vencer al enemigo cuando dice ciñe tus lomos (suena conocido) con el cinturón de la verdad. Entonces, debes tener la verdad para preparar para la renovación de tu mente. Jesús oró al Padre por sus seguidores, “Santifícalos en la verdad; tu palabra es verdad.” (Juan 17:17) La Biblia es la palabra infalible de Dios y no contiene la verdad, ES LA VERDAD. ES el filtro por el cual debes pasar todo pensamiento e intento. No importa quien dice que algo es verdad. Si es contrario a la palabra de Dios, ni siquiera está sobre la mesa.
