The days we live in are characterized by much intolerance and even persecution, but like Solomon said, there is nothing new under the sun. When Cain was exiled by God after killing his brother, he feared being persecuted and even killed. When King David fled from the uprising of his son, he suffered persecution from a man called Shimei, throwing stones at him and cursing him to his face. When Daniel’s friends were in Babylonia, they were faced with either bowing down to the king’s image or being burned alive. Before Saul of Tarsus converted to Christ, he persecuted the new Christians of the day, killing many such as Stephen. And after Saul’s conversion to Paul, he himself suffered much persecution such as repeated beatings and imprisonment and finally death. The apostles that survived Jesus all died horrendous deaths for their faith, except for John who was exiled till he died.
“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.” (Ro.12:14 CSB)
Persecution is never pleasant nor fair, but even so, the ugliness of others does not give us the right to hate or curse them. A few years ago, radical groups in eastern Asia began to make public videos of executing Christians simply for not renouncing their faith. I was greatly challenged by the response of the young wife of one of these martyrs. Standing strong with tears in her eyes but unmoving conviction she said, “I thank God that my husband was worthy to die for Him”. Think about that when you are tempted to throw a pity party or throw mud. God did not promise life would be fair, or that everyone would love you for raising His banner. Quite the opposite. But in all and through all, we must shine as ambassadors of truth and love in the midst of a crooked generation.

Día 25: Bendice y no maldigas!
Los días en que vivimos se caracterizan por mucha intolerancia e incluso persecución, pero como dijo Salomón, no hay nada nuevo bajo el sol. Cuando Caín fue exiliado por Dios después de matar a su hermano, temía ser perseguido e incluso asesinado. Cuando el rey David huyó del levantamiento de su hijo, sufrió la persecución de un hombre llamado Simei, arrojándole piedras y maldiciéndolo en la cara. Cuando los amigos de Daniel estaban en Babilonia, se enfrentaron a inclinarse ante la imagen del rey o a ser quemados vivos. Antes de que Saulo de Tarso se convirtiera a Cristo, persiguió a los nuevos cristianos de la época, matando a muchos como Esteban. Y después de la conversión de Saulo a Pablo, él mismo sufrió mucha persecución, como repetidas golpizas y encarcelamiento y finalmente la muerte. Todos los apóstoles que sobrevivieron a Jesús murieron horriblemente por su fe, excepto Juan, que fue exiliado hasta su muerte.
“Bendigan a quienes los persiguen. No los maldigan, sino pídanle a Dios en oración que los bendiga”. (Ro.12:14 NTV)
La persecución nunca es agradable ni justa, pero aun así, la fealdad de los demás no nos da derecho a odiarlos o maldecirlos. Hace unos años, grupos radicales en el este de Asia comenzaron a hacer públicos videos de la ejecución de cristianos simplemente por no renunciar a su fe. Me sentí muy desafiado por la respuesta de la joven esposa de uno de estos mártires. Se vio fuerte, con lágrimas en los ojos pero convicción inconmovible, y dijo: “Doy gracias a Dios porque mi esposo fue digno de morir por Él”. Piensa en eso cuando tengas la tentación de tirarte a regodeo de autocompasión o aventar lodo a alguien. Dios no prometió que la vida sería justa, o que todos te amarían por levantar Su estandarte. Todo lo contrario. Pero en todo y a través de todos, debemos brillar como embajadores de la verdad y el amor en medio de una generación torcida.
