God didn’t make cookie cutter people, but rather a great variety to blend, contrast and complement one another as we do life together. One of the greatest challenges of parenting is to recognize and help develop the unique gifts and motivations God created each with. And believe me, being blessed with six, sometimes it’s frustrating, sometimes overwhelming, but overall fun and gratifying to see them flourish.
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your] faith, if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. (1 Co. 12:6-8)
So, imagine I must be gone all day and left instructions for the kids to have the house clean before I get back, and now I am 35 minutes away. The one gifted with prophecy hollers at everyone, we’ re gonna be in trouble if we don’t get this done (tells it like it is). The one with teaching is irate saying, I told you we should have done it in the morning (tells how things could be different). The gifted leader/adminstrator quickly orders: You do the bathrooms, you get the vacuum, you wash the dishes, you sweep, and you mop (gets people moving to get things done). The one gifted to serve takes the job the others don’t want (happily does what is needed). The encourager sets the pace with an assured “We can do this!” (makes people believe and go on) The giver calls me and tells me to stop by for pizza for dinner, his treat (happily gives to make others happy). And the gifted in mercy is just plain distraught thinking of poor mom coming home to a mess, but also in poor kids if they’re in trouble (feels for others and lets them know). Any similarity to actual persons or events is purely coincidental. Or not.

Día 19: ¿Qué te mueve a ti?
Dios no hizo a las personas como clones, sino hizo una gran variedad para mezclar, contrastar y complementarse entre sí mientras atravesemos la vida juntos. Uno de los mayores desafíos de la crianza de los hijos es reconocer y ayudar a desarrollar los dones y motivaciones únicos con los que Dios creó a cada uno. Y siendo bendecido con seis, creanme cuando digo que a veces es frustrante, a veces abrumador, pero en general divertido y gratificante verlos florecer.
“De manera que tenemos dones que varían según la gracia que nos ha sido concedida: Si es de profecía, úsese conforme a la medida de la fe; si es de servicio, en servir; el que enseña, úselo en la enseñanza, el que exhorta, en la exhortación; el que comparte, con liberalidad; el que preside, con diligencia; y el que hace misericordia, con alegría.” (1 Co. 12:6-8)
Entonces, imagina el escenario… Debo estar fuera todo el día y dejo instrucciones para que los niños tengan la casa limpia antes que regrese, y ahora estoy a 35 minutos de legar. El que está dotado de profecía grita a todos, vamos a estar en problemas si no hacemos esto (declara las verdades). El que enseña está molesto diciendo, les dije que deberíamos haberlo hecho por la mañana (dice cómo las cosas podrían ser diferentes). El con don de líder/administrador ordena rápidamente: Tú limpia los baños, tú ve por la aspiradora, tú lava los platos, tú barres y yo trapeo (hace que la gente se mueva para hacer las cosas). El que está dotado para servir toma el trabajo que los demás no quieren (felizmente hace lo que se necesita). El exhortador pone todo en marcha con un “¡Podemos hacer esto!” (hace que la gente crea y continúe) El dador me llama y me dice que pase por pizza para cenar, él paga (felizmente da para hacer felices a los demás). Y el dotado en misericordia simplemente estará angustiado pensando pobre mi madre que llega a casa a un desastre, pero también piensa en los niños si están en problemas (siente por los demás y lo demuestra). Cualquier similitud con personas o eventos reales es pura coincidencia. O no.
